Quick post today. The Summer 2014 issue of Unstrung Magazine, published by the Arizona Consortium for the Arts, was published this weekend. I have a couple of poems in this issue. Below is the link if you care to check it out.
Hello! I know I’ve been away for awhile. What can I say, the first half of the year just seems so hectic that blogging takes a step to the side. I recently logged into WP and saw that my blog still shows signs of life, so I thought I should take a few minutes to post something and get up to date with my fellow bloggers. Continue reading →
Hard to believe it is already February. It has been a very busy month. For many of you in the U.S., this is a holiday weekend due to President’s Day. If you have some extra time on your hands due to the holiday, consider signing up for the Great Backyard Bird Count.
Sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Audubon Society and Bird Studies Canada, this event invites people worldwide to take 15 minutes to count birds from wherever they are. Whether you are in your backyard, at a park or just taking a stroll, consider entering your observations this weekend. This event helps scientists and bird enthusiasts track bird populations from across the globe.
It takes about 5 minutes to sign up for a free account. After that, you just sign back in and enter your checklist of birds. The site gives you a ready made list of possible birds in your area with links to information about the various bird species in your area to help make positive identifications on birds.
There’s no need to photograph your observations, but to post photos to accompany your observations, you’ll need to upload them to a site, such as your WordPress blog.
For example, this particular sighting of this raptor has me stumped, so I’m posting it here to upload with my checklist.
The count continues through tomorrow, 2/17/14, so there is still plenty of time to participate. Just visit http://gbbc.birdcount.org/ to get started.
Before I close the door on 2013, I wanted to leave a few thoughts about the past year on WP.
Personally, 2013 was a whole year of reflection and transition for me. Blogging wasn’t at the top of my priority list, but I still felt the need to keep the blog afloat. Hopefully my regular posts for the past month have partially made up for the irregular posting schedule. Continue reading →
There is still time to nominate a blog to be featured in an upcoming post on NMNPHX. I will handout a round of Spotlights sometime after the Christmas holiday and I am welcoming suggestions from fellow bloggers. If there a blog that you feel is awesome and could use some attention, shoot me a message between now and Dec. 23rd in the form below or leave a comment.
This time last year, I was feeling a bit burned out from maintaining this blog. I do enjoy maintaining a presence on WordPress, but more and more I have found it difficult to blog regularly. Last December, I vowed to make December the most awesome month of blogging on NMNPHX for my readers. You know, give my audience a December to Remember. Continue reading →
Hi there! December on this blog was quite active. You may have noticed that eight days into the New Year, I’ve only created two blog posts…including this post.
I had every intention of posting a new round of Spotlight Awards this past weekend. I started a blog post, just didn’t have the mental focus to finish it. The wonder of the holiday season has most definitely fizzled out, and I’m in a bit of a malaise when it comes to blogging.
For one thing, work has been quite hectic. On my off-time, I’ve been very busy doing productive stuff. I also feel a bit worn down as my allergies blew up last week.
I can’t say that my lack of blogging signals a disinterest in the act of blogging. I just don’t have the attention span to sit in from the computer for more than 10 minutes at a time when I’m not at work.
So what am I trying to communicate here? Well, for those of you who frequent the blog, please be patient with me as I try to keep the blog alive for the month of January. At the very least I have spam comment posts auto-scheduled for the next 3 Mondays. I should have a Spotlight post out within the next few days. I’m sure I’ll add a few more things here and there, but content on the blog will be light this month.
To those of you whose blogs I frequent, I apologize for not visiting as often as I had been. At some point I will come visit your blog again and leave some comments. We’ll have a nice brief chat about your blog.
In the meantime, I hope your 2013 is off to a fabulous start.
I recently received my 3rd 2012 Blog of the Year nod from My Cruise Stories. Realizing I have all of 2 days left to accept, I figured I better get going on passing out 5 more 2012 Blog of the Year awards.
Hello there! I have a short post today. Ever since Freshly Pressed was moved off of the main page and onto a tab that you can only view when logged in, I haven’t spent nearly as much time checking out Freshly Pressed blogs as a I used to. So it was a welcome surprise when I visited A Small Press Lifeyesterday and saw Maedez’s announcement that a recent post of hers was Freshly Pressed. Continue reading →
Hi there. I wanted to take a moment and talk about my activity on this blog. You may have noticed that I’ve posted something new each day since December began (or not…we are only 5 days into the month). I will never commit to posting daily, but I thought I should take a moment and explain what I would like to accomplish on the blog this month. Continue reading →
