My entry for this week’s theme of fleeting is an out of focus shot of a hallway at work I took back in January.
To me this signifies fleeting for several reasons.
- I took this when the sun was setting, which is why there is a blue tint coming through the windows. The short days of winter always remind me how fleeting time can be.
- The out of focus nature of the photo gives a sense of movement, such as if one were traveling – perhaps quickly – down this hallway. Add in the abandoned cart and there is a sense of urgency, as though someone vacated the hallway in a hurry.
- This particular hallway sees its share of fleeting moments all day everyday. At any given moment in the daylight, you would most likely catch at least one person pacing or standing stationary by the window while conducting personal calls on their cell phones. Collectively we all know that it isn’t a completely private spot, yet it gives us the illusion of privacy. Just beyond the lime colored entry way is the entrance to the restrooms and the lunch room on the other end where I’m standing and taking this shot. Therefore, it is a well traveled pathway yet somehow it feels peaceful and private to stop and chat with loved ones for a few moments or arrange personal business.
